Although
most residents are satisfied with their room assignment, some
residents choose to change rooms or roommates. Room
Change begins the second week of classes
each semester.
If you are not
getting along with your roommate, you are encouraged to see your
resident assistant to try to improve the situation. Your RA
has been trained to help resolve roommate conflicts and may be able to
help you and your roommate to get along.
If you are
interested in changing rooms or roommates, you should see Barbara
Dial in the Housing Office (Brock Hall 121) between the hours of
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
If you are
requesting a particular person as your new roommate, you will need
a letter from that resident confirming his/her request. The
letter should include the new roommate's name and student
number. If the person you want as a roommate already has a
roommate, your new roommate must come to the Housing Office with
you to request a room change. This is necessary
since the two of you will need to move to an empty room.
Recognize that some of the residence halls on
campus do not have vacancies. In some residence halls, the
only way to change roommates is to swap with someone else.
The alternative is to move to a different residence hall that has
vacant rooms.
Three of the
residence halls on campus are designated as Residential Scholar
Communities. Vacant rooms in Reed, Hoover and Stickney are
generally available only to students in the Honors Program and to
students who are attending UWA on a Trustee Scholarship. UWA
students with at least a 3.0 GPA (3.50 GPA for freshmen) may also request to move to
Stickney, Reed and Hoover Apartments. So as to insure
roommate satisfaction, a student that lives in one of the
Residential Scholar Communities may request any resident to be
his/her roommate as long as vacancies exist in the residence
hall.
